We recognise that the firearm application process can seem intimidating. That’s why we are committed to offering dependable guidance, clear communication, and ongoing support every step of the way.
Although proficiency training must be completed in person, we provide remote competency and firearm licence application assistance across the country, operating from our offices situated in Somerset West between the beautiful Helderberg mountains and the Atlantic coastline.

Steps to apply for a gun licence in South Africa The Gun Licence Application Process
Step 1: Proficiency Training
(Cape Town Only)
To apply for a Competency Certificate with SAPS, you are required to complete accredited firearm proficiency training.
Legal Knowledge Module: R620
Additional Unit Standards: R1590 per module
(Handgun, Shotgun, Rifle, Self‑Loading Rifle)
We also offer a Comprehensive Combination Package at R5590, which includes the following unit standards:

Self‑Loading Rifle

The total cost for completing both the Legal Knowledge and Handgun modules is R2190 (all inclusive). This fee includes:
Training manuals
Open-book assessments
Closed-book assessments
Firearm rental
Range fees
Ammunition
Training manuals may be purchased at your convenience. Open-book assessments can be completed at home in your own time. Once completed, you may schedule an appointment to complete the closed-book assessment and practical shooting evaluation.
Upon successful completion, your results will be uploaded to the PFTC system. Certificates and Statements of Results are typically issued within approximately one week.
Step 2: Competency Application
Once you have received your Certificate and Statement of Results, you may proceed with submitting your Competency Certificate application at SAPS.
We offer a full application compilation service to ensure your competency application is professionally prepared and correctly structured.
All that is required from you is the necessary personal information and supporting documentation. We will prepare your complete application pack, ready for submission to SAPS.
The fee for this service is R650.
Step 3: Firearm Licence Application
Once your Competency Certificate has been issued, you may proceed with applying for your Firearm Licence at SAPS.
In addition to supplying firearms, we offer a comprehensive firearm licence application compilation service. We will professionally prepare your complete application pack to ensure it is properly structured and ready for submission.
As with the competency application, you will only be required to provide the necessary information and supporting documentation. Your completed application pack will then be prepared for collection.
The fee for this service is R1350.

Business Proficiency
If you are looking to pursue a career in the growing South African private security sector, we offer a comprehensive range of business-purpose firearm proficiency courses. The process for obtaining business-purpose proficiency follows the same requirements and procedures as private proficiency certification. From R
Assistance with Regulation 21
Processing Fee: R950
All private security operators actively working in the Republic of South Africa need to once a year complete a regulation 21 course in order to stay compliant with the law. We offer the full range of regulation 21 modules. Our classes are small and engaging, making sure that each and every security professional is able to sharpen their skills while staying compliant with the law. Our all inclusive fee of R950 includes one module, eg. Handgun. All additional modules are charged at R450.
